Hole – In – Ones at Willow Valley for 2011…More in 2012?

UPDATE July 24, 2011:  If you want to make a Hole-In-One then come to Willow Valley!  On Sunday, July 24th we had our 4th hole-in-one of the season!  This one was made by George Lower while playing along side his wife and another couple.   George struck a 7 wood into the cup for an Ace.   The shot carried the water and in one bounce disappeared into the hole for his first career Ace.   Congratulations to George for the well stuck shot and to now enter the group of individuals who have accomplished this feat!

We have experienced our second hole in one for the season - this time it was done by one of our youngest players!  On July 5, 2011 a local 12 year old – Garret Elmer struck a nice 7 iron on our 7th hole into the cup for an Ace.   Garrett was playing with his Father and some friends who witnessed his first hole in one.  The hole plays 118 yards downhill and the shot hit on the green and found its way into the cup to the cheers of all!  With continued play Garrett will certainly make many more in the years to come.  Nice shot Garrett!

On Sunday, June 26 a very special fete was accomplished at Willow Valley Golf Course!  Grant Walker of Lititz, Pa. carded a very rare Double Eagle on the par 4 8th Hole!  The hole plays downhill with water protecting the front and left sides of the green, but with a well struck shot it can be reached in one.  Grant did just that! Holing his shot from the tee for a Double Eagle one on a Par 4. Congratulations to Grant for such a fine shot and we wish him great success with golf through the season.

On april 14 of 2011 our first Hole In One of the season was recorded by John Re . John struck a perfect 7 Iron into the cup on the Par 3 ninth hole. His playing partners were in awe as they watched one of the best shots they have ever seen clear the bunker and find the hole. They were staying at the resort so it was a great night of party to celebrate Johns ace.

We will once again host two Phildelphia Junior tour events during the season.  This event is for junior players from ages 10 – 17 who are registered with the www.phillyjuniortour.com.  We are expecting to see some of the best junior players in the Philadelphia area coming to play.  The dates of the tournaments are to be determined for 2012 and our course will be closed until 12:30 to allow completion of play.  Last years winner shot a 69 score for 18 holes; this years Spring event was won with an 18 hole score of 63 or 3 under par. Like they say on Tv these kids are good!

THE MAINTENANCE CORNER:

A cutting edge method to improve the quality of our green surfaces will be used again this year.  The program is called dry-ject and allows us to inject sand into our putting surfaces without using the old technology of aerification holes.  This method was fast and the green surfaces were only slightly disturbed and play continued while the process was being done last season. In addition we will be beginning a standard practice of sanding our green surfaces to create a better putting surface which is firmer and smoother.

Multiple changes have been made to our first hole to return it to its original design.  You can now play your shot from the tee and with a slight fade and drive it into the fairway over the bunkers without the obstruction of multiple trees in the line of flight.  The hole has good lines and a much more appealing view from the tee area.

We continue to work with our natural enviornment and will create some natural grass areas throughout the golf course. These areas are important for erosion control and to assist in controlling leaf dispursion across the course. They also provide some challenge if you happen to hit your ball in there, but they are positioned well out of normal play so accept the challenge and hit a good shot.

THE FUN CORNER:

Try the putt-putt contest on our natural grass green…

For those of you who enjoy the game but do not feel your skill level meets the requirements of a full size golf course , look at our new area for fun this season. We will be modifying the putting green several times this year to create an interesting and unique putting challenge. The green will be layed out with a multiple hole putting challenge , which will encorporate natural obstacles to challenge your putting skills. Come on out and give the mini course a try for only $5.00 and see if you could be the best putter on that weekend, and collect some prizes and the satisfaction that you beat the mini course and all the players who tried and failed.

Potential dates for putting contests: May 26th and 27th…..July 7th and 8th….September 1st and 2nd.
